How To Install Tamil Fonts

Please follow this quick and easy-to-follow step-by-step guide to install Tamil fonts on Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and Linux. Check the section that applies to your current operating system version.

Once you have installed the fonts following our instruction, they will also be available on Microsoft Office Suites programs (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.) and similar applications, as well as graphic designs software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.

How to Install Tamil Fonts – Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Find a font
  2. Download
  3. Install

Step 1 – Find a font

From our Tamil fonts collection, choose the font that you require. Use the search bar on the right hand side if necessary.

Step 2 – Download

Click on the Download button to download the zip file to a directory on your computer. Tip: Choose an easy-to-remember location so you can access them quickly (e.g. “Desktop” or “Downloads”. Then, extract the zip file. You should get a .ttf file that is standard for fonts.

Step 3 – Install

For Windows users

For Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 Users:

There are traditionally three methods to install fonts. Pick the one that you are most familiar with or find more convenient to do. We recommend method 2 since you can preview the downloaded fonts before installing.

Method 1: Right-click the .ttf file and select “Install”. The font will be installed automatically.

Method 2: Double-click the .ttf file to open the preview font windows, check if the font is the correct one and then click ‘Install’. It should look something like this:

Method 3: From the folder that you downloaded the fonts onto, copy and paste the .ttf file to the ‘Fonts’ folder located at C:\Windows\Fonts, or extract the content of the zip file to the folder C:\Windows\Fonts.

For Microsoft Windows Vista Users:

Method 1: Right-click the .ttf file and select “Install”. The font will be installed automatically.

Method 2: From the folder that you downloaded the fonts onto, copy and paste the .ttf file to the ‘Fonts’ folder located at C:\Windows\Fonts, or extract the content of the zip file to the folder C:\Windows\Fonts.

For Microsoft Windows XP Users:

Method 1:

Step 1:

Click on “Start” button, then select “Control Panel” and double click on “Fonts” folder (If there is no “Fonts” folder in your Control Panel, click on “Switch to Classic View” on the left side of the Control Panel window to display it.)

Step 2:

In the Fonts folder, hover on the menu bar, choose “File” and select “Install New Font” and the following dialog should pop up:

Navigate to the .ttf file that you just extracted and click “OK”.

Method 2:

From the folder that you downloaded the fonts onto, copy and paste the .ttf file to the ‘Fonts’ folder located at C:\WINDOWS\FONTS or C:\WINNT\FONTS, or extract the content of the zip file to the folder C:\WINDOWS\FONTS or C:\WINNT\FONTS.

For Linux users

– Copy and Paste the file onto the Font folder located at /USR/SHARE/FONTS.
